NEW PROGRAM SUPPORTS INTEREACTIVE DIGITIAL MEDIA DEVELOPMENT

The Ontario Intellectual Property Development Fund will reimburse provincial businesses up to $170,000 for advancing prototype development or market readiness of interactive digital media products, as well as for advancing film and television product pre-production and/or production. Eligible activities include but not limited to:

  • Development of prototypes / electronic proof-of-concept / demos / animatics / pilots / coding /testing
  • Generation of design, game design documents and technical specification documentation
  • Preparation of documentation, materials and plans to attract financing
  • Concept, script, demo, pilot, location, character, story and market research, creation and development

Eligible expenses include labour and non-labour costs as well as corporate overhead expenditures incurred after March 31, 2009 up to and including March 31, 2010. For these expenses the program will reimburse 30% up to $150,000 plus a performance bonus of 10% (capped at $20,000) will be available to corporations that can demonstrate advancement of their development project by securing third party funding. Funding is limited to two applications for company.

To be eligible, film and TV projects must as their primary purpose, educate, inform or entertain. News, marketing, current events or public affairs programming, talk shows, productions in respect of a game, questionnaire or contest, sports event or activity, gala presentation or awards shows are not eligible for support. Additionally, interactive digital media projects must be for individual use. Examples of interactive digital media products that may qualify are: console video games, PC games, down loadable games, mobile content, websites and other content delivered online.

Deadline for Applications is July 31, 2010 or until funding is exhausted.
